Who is Eligible


Nurses become eligible for CNPS core services, including professional liability protection, in one of two ways:

Nurses who are eligible for CNPS services and legal assistance are referred to as “beneficiaries” of the CNPS.

Province or territory Organizations whose members are CNPS beneficiaries
Who may join as a CNPS individual beneficiary
Alberta College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) Licensed practical nurses and registered psychiatric nurses
British Columbia British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP)

  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Employed Student Nurses
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurses
  • Employed Student Psychiatric Nurses
Licensed practical nurses
Manitoba Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM)* Registered nurses, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses
College of Registered Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) members will be automatically extended CNPS beneficiary status effective January 1, 2020. You will therefore be able to access CNPS core services to the same extent as existing CNPS beneficiaries as of that date.

Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) members will automatically be extended CNPS beneficiary status effective November 1, 2019. You will therefore be able to access CNPS core services to the same extent as existing CNPS beneficiaries as of that date.

* Effective January 1, 2017, the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) transferred its CNPS membership to the Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM). RNs and NPs in Manitoba are required to be CNPS beneficiaries. Manitoba nurses may maintain their CNPS beneficiary status by joining the ARNM at the preferred CNPS member rate, or by becoming an individual beneficiary of the CNPS
