The Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS) provides legal advice, risk management services, legal assistance and professional liability protection related to nursing practice to over 175,000 eligible Canadian nurses across all Canadian provinces and territories. A non-profit legal support system created by nurses for nurses, the CNPS is specifically tailored to meet the professional liability needs of nurses in all professional nursing roles.
SCOPE OF POSITION
As a Legal Administrative Assistant with the CNPS, you will have the opportunity to leverage your legal experience and training. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Administrative Support
- Opening, maintaining and closing legal files;
- Drafting confidential letters, memos to file, records of calls, reports, speeches and other documents from electronic and handwritten copy;
- Organizing and filing paper and electronic information;
- Entering information into the database and verifying input;
- Scheduling calls and sending correspondence; and,
- Assisting with research, case status reports and travel arrangements as required.
General Administrative Support
- Assisting with answering incoming telephone calls and emails and assigning incoming requests to CNPS lawyers and other staff; and,
- Performing other administrative and general office duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of post-secondary degree, preferably in Law or relevant field of study e.g. Public Health, Public Administration, Criminology, Business Administration, etc.;
- 5 years’ relevant administrative experience, including, preferably, 3 years’ providing legal administrative support to legal counsel;
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English;
- Advanced proficiency with SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite/0ffice 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
- Proficient in data entry; and
- Available to commute/relocate to Ottawa.
ASSETS
- Professional fluency in written and spoken French;
- Experience using customer management systems (CRM) such as Salesforce;
- Experience working with health professionals; and
- Knowledge of medical terminology.

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
In 2026, CNPS anticipates significant organizational growth. In this context, CNPS offers a competitive, flexible, and attractive total compensation package that reflects the value and strategic impact of its functions.
For this position, the annual starting salary range is between $ 52,000 and $ 56,000. This initial range reflects the expected compensation for candidates who possess skills, strengths, and an experience profile that meet—or exceed—the requirements outlined for this role.
