BC College to transition CNPS jurisdictional membership to the provincial nursing association

Canadian Nurses Protective Society > CNPS > BC College to transition CNPS jurisdictional membership to the provincial nursing association

On September 1, 2020, the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) was established and became Canada’s first combined regulator of nurses and midwives. As such, in an effort to continue to focus on their regulatory work and create alignment between the professions they regulate, BCCNM has decided to transfer the CNPS jurisdictional membership to the provincial nursing association, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC (NNPBC), effective March 1, 2021.

As such, beginning with the 2021-2022 licensure year, registrants will have the option to fulfill their professional liability protection requirement either as a bundle with NNPBC membership at the CNPS preferential group rate, or directly via CNPS at the individual beneficiary rate. This will be completed during the licensure process via the BCCNM website. All practising NPs, RNs, RPNs and student registrants will continue to have access to all CNPS services, including access to up to $10 million of professional liability protection and a full range of additional legal support services.

In 2017, the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba became the first nursing regulator to transfer its CNPS jurisdictional membership to a provincial association, the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba.
